What chapter one said still holds in chapter eleven.
Before the first sentence there is a story bible: cast, places, appearance, voices. Every chapter is written against it — and then checked against it.
- Appearance split into what cannot change and what may
- Facts recorded only with a verbatim quotation from the chapter
- A fact whose quotation is not in the text is discarded

Found, named, and repaired where a rewrite can do it.
Two dozen fixed checks and a reviewer run after every chapter. Anything a rewrite can address is rewritten — but only kept if the same check finds less afterwards.
- Two rungs: the paragraph first, then the whole chapter
- A rewrite that makes it worse is thrown away
- A hard budget — after it the note goes in the report instead of costing more

Non-fiction takes its own track
A non-fiction book argues instead of asserting.
Instead of a cast there is a thesis tree. Every thesis carries the objection a sceptical reader would raise — and that objection goes into the chapter's brief.
